July 8 Lecture by Joan Parsley . . . American paperweight artist Johne Parsley (1916-2009) was especially known for his beautifully encased Johnny Jump-Ups. The exquisite NEW ON VIEW exhibition at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass (BMMOG) has just opened and the Parsley Johnny Jump-Up, along with an additional fourteen Parsley weights recently accessioned, is on display once again. In all, the BMMOG has acquired twenty of the mid-twentieth century artist’s paperweights. READ MORE . . .

The Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass had just acquired fifteen Johne Parsley paperweights, to add to its permanent holdings, a gift from the collection of Marge and Gary McClanahan. The exhibition entitled New On View will open to the public on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass.This exhibition showcases more than 200 acquisitions of paperweights and contemporary studio glass collected by Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass during the past three years. The eminent glass artist and Pennsylvania paperweight maker, Johne Parsley, died in 2009 leaving approximately two dozen paperweights designated as “seconds.” Parsley, a devotee of Wheaton Arts and artist in the Hot Glass Studio never had the opportunity to properly dispose of these paperweights. Pennsylvania . . . When Johne Parsley originally made paperweights in the early 1980s, he etched his signature on the weight. These early pieces were mostly miniatures. Some could have a "P" with white background signature cane in them, but Parsley is not certain. READ MORE . . .
